Smart SCADA allows to reach a new automation level

Smart SCADA is the main point to reach a new level of automation, this is possible thanks to the breaking principle of the CIM pyramid. Let's see together what are the fundamental principles of Smart SCADA and as long as these allow new openings and methodologies towards automation, thus bringing new paradigms capable of satisfying the new needs of monitoring, control and command in process plants and machines. The principles underlying the Smart SCADA can be summarized in the need to overcome the limits imposed by a model that is too constrained in rigid levels. The advent of the IoT and then the IIoT has opened up new possibilities, this has allowed us to change perspective and thus solve old and unresolved problems with innovative solutions. The Smart SCADA is a modular structure, it must adapt to automation regardless of the brand or technology used. It has to be an interpreter who can understand the missions that come from the conduction level, in order to transfer them to the...

What is process?

Process is a common word, it is used in many fields. Process is a concept widely used in the management role, in information technology up to automation processes and data processes. A good definition of a process could be: The process is a series of actions that produce something or that allow to lead to a certain result. In the fields of engineering the process can be thought of as a transformation, in fact a process transforms materials into other materials, information into other information or energy into other energy. The concept of process is widely used in the SCADA context. All plants, or machines, can be well modeled by breaking them down into elementary processes. This allows to reduce complexity and to achieve very high levels of control and efficiency. If you are curious about how to use the process concept to create flexible and innovative SCADA systems, follow my blog. W ith pleasure I inform you that there is also my book (currently written in Italian)  Smart SCADA ...

Brief history of SCADA

The acronym SCADA stands for "Supervisor Control And Data Acquisition", to give meaning to the acronym SCADA can be thought of as a distributed computer system, whose constituent components are hardware and software, the primary purposes are: monitoring, control and supervision of industrial systems processes. SCADA systems were born in the 1960s with the aim of controlling industrial sites that grew in size and complexity. In those years it was necessary to provide a technology capable of controlling and monitoring physical systems efficiently and automatically even in the presence of distributed controls located over large distances. The introduction of SCADA in process control allowed operators (and technicians) to limit manual actions on local commands (example: act on buttons, switches, physical selectors) introducing the possibility to remotely command and control even very large processes, away from the command seat.  SCADA was the reference technology to keep processe...

What is SCADA?

SCADA is often used as a synonym for supervisor, but this is wrong. I hope my short video helps us all to understand what SCADA is, in particular not to stop at the acronym, we have to consider also the architecture that makes a system a SCADA.
